Sandbags, bad decisions, and catastrophic levels of chaos—this week we’re heading to West Quincy, Missouri, for the bizarre case of James Robert Scott: the man convicted of causing part of the Great Flood of 1993.
We talk levee failure, suspicious interviews, arson history, messy witness testimony, and the absolutely bananas allegation that one man helped trigger massive flooding just so he could party without his wife around.

Episode 237: Would this hold up in court? (Parenting Chat)
Wednesday Apr 22, 2026
Wednesday Apr 22, 2026
Juice boxes, side quests, and crimes against household stability—this week we’re back with a parenting chat episode: Would This Hold Up in Court? where the laws are made up and the accusations are absolutely unhinged.
We’re presenting the evidence, naming suspects, filing charges, and determining once and for all whether these household offenses would actually hold up in a court of law. From Easter candy theft to abandoned snacks, a missing monster truck remote, a flooded bathroom sink, one extremely naked house streaker, and a child who simply refused to get ready for school despite having more than enough time—we are building cases and naming names.
💬 Got your own household crime to report? Send us a DM or, better yet, a voice memo with your most ridiculous parenting court cases.

Episode 236: Ew, Bryan Kohberger! — Follow Up
Wednesday Apr 15, 2026
Wednesday Apr 15, 2026
Bryan Kohberger may have pleaded guilty, but this case still leaves behind a truly irritating number of questions.
This week, we’re revisiting the Moscow murders, the investigation, the evidence, and the plea deal that technically closed the case while somehow explaining basically nothing that people actually want explained.
We’re talking timelines, surveillance, cell phone pings, surviving roommates, and the unsettling fact that even with a conviction, this case still feels unfinished as hell.
A legal ending? Sure.Closure? Be serious.

Episode 235: Yuba County Five
Wednesday Apr 08, 2026
Wednesday Apr 08, 2026
Five men. One car in the mountains. And a case that makes less sense the longer you stare at it.
This week on Cursewords and Crayons: TRUE CRIME, we’re diving into one of the most baffling and heartbreaking mysteries we’ve ever covered: The Yuba County Five.
In February 1978, five young men—friends, coworkers, and beloved members of their community—set out for what should have been a simple trip to a basketball game in California.
They never made it home.
Their car was later found abandoned on a remote mountain road… miles away from where they were supposed to be. No damage. No obvious reason it stopped. Plenty of gas. And all five men? Gone.
…and then things get weird.
What follows is a search that turns into a nightmare and a discovery that will absolutely make you yell “WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?!” at your phone:
🚗 A perfectly functional car abandoned in the mountains🥶 A freezing trek into the wilderness… for no clear reason🏕️ A forest service trailer full of food and supplies—left mostly untouched🧥 Clothes and bedding that could have saved lives💔 And a slow, devastating death that didn’t have to happen
Only four of the five men were ever found. One—Gary Mathias—has never been located.
And just to make your brain itch even more:There were reported sightings. There were potential witnesses. There were signs that someone else may have been involved.
…but nothing ever came together.
This case is equal parts mystery, tragedy, and pure frustration. Because the biggest question isn’t just what happened—it’s why did they go up that mountain at all?
This episode is full of twists, theories, and that deeply unsettling feeling that we’re missing one key piece that would make everything click… and it’s just not there.
💬 Tell us what you think: exposure and confusion, outside involvement, or something even stranger?DM us your theories, hot takes, and late-night spirals—we live for it.

Until next time: trust your gut, stay out of the mountains at night, and don’t ignore the signs right in front of you.
